THE MOON AND I
by John T. Baker
The Moon and I had fun last night Before I went to sleep; When Mother Dear turned out the light I started counting sheep, But soon the sheep all ran away, Ten cows then took their place And jumped up past the Moon to play Their games in outer space. The Moon bent down and kissed my cheek And whispered in my ear, "Just close your eyes, lie still, don't peek, And I will let you steer                         The wheel that makes the world go round, We'll visit all the stars, And then with one tremendous bound We'll roll right up to Mars." I shyly nodded to the Moon, He took me by the hand, I held my breath and oh so soon We were in Wonderland. The stars all smiled and said hello, The Moon began to sing, The raindrops built a bright rainbow So I could have a swing. We raced the wind across the sky, We chased the clouds and birds, We sailed and sailed, till by and by I heard the Moon's soft words: "So long, young friend, it's almost light And I must greet the Sun; I'll wait for you tomorrow night And then we'll have more fun."
