PUMPKINS AND DRAGONFLIES
by John T. Baker
Two little pumpkins took a stroll
On Halloween one day;
Their names were Paul and Peter and
They loved to eat and play.
They brought along their bats and balls,
Their skates and fishing poles,
Six peanut butter sandwiches
And fifteen Tootsie Rolls.
Two dragonflies came buzzing by,
Out looking for their lunch,
A mother and a daughter who
Craved something sweet to munch.
They saw the pumpkins and attacked,
But timely help arrives;
A giant zucchini chased them off
And saved the pumpkins’ lives.
“Hortense,” said Mrs. Dragonfly,
“Cheer up, my dear, don’t moan!
We’ll scoot down to the supermart
And get an ice cream cone.”
The daughter pouted, still upset,
And started in to cry;
“But, Mother, all I really want
Is just some pumpkin pie.”
