CURRICULUM VITAE
by John T. Baker
My father was a preacher, A Servant of the Lord; We kids were all expected To work for our Reward. I played a lot of baseball, Discovered girls were cool, Soon learned it was important To do my best in school. I went away to college To study literature As well as foreign language And blossomed jour by jour. I taught Creative Writing, Coached wrestling in the gym, Then joined the U.S. Navy (But never learned to swim!) I roamed the Halls of Congress And for a while chased spies, Went on the lecture circuit, Pretending to be wise. I tried my hand at acting And wrote a play or two, I entered Poetry Contests And even won a few. I made a little money, Not too much to enjoy, And never have forgotten I'm just a country boy. This life is so intriguing, Who knows what lies ahead? But one thing I can tell you . . . I'd rather be read than dead.
