THE GARDEN OF GOD
by John T. Baker
We all are plants in the garden of God, A garden He sows and feeds, Where some of us flourish and fructify, While others turn out to be weeds. God tends to the plants in His garden with care, He waters us all with his rain, He grants everyone the warmth of His sun, And each failure to grow brings Him pain. An experienced gardener, God well knows Disappointments are bound to occur, But yet each withered leaf is the cause of much grief As He thinks of the way that we were. Every year He is faced with the challenge again: Shall He bother to plant a new crop? Let us hope, as His seed, that He never will need To decide that He may as well stop. He’s aware of the health of the tiniest plant And He instantly spots every clod; Let us grow, let us bloom, so as not to become Just a weed in the garden of God.
