GOLIATH'S FALL
by John T. Baker
“Come gird your loins, Goliath, join the fray!” Young David boldly raised his slingshot hand. The raging giant strode upon the field With self-assurance he would soon prevail. The other combatants all paused to view The coming conflict from the battle’s rim; In seeing his opponent did not flinch, The giant’s confidence began to fade. Goliath sliced the air with sharpened blade While David doled out pious hymns of praise; The giant struck, the youth remained unscathed And whirled his slingshot round and round his head. With well-directed aim he hurled the stone; Goliath fell, oppression overthrown.
