A Dangerous Species
The spider bends her fragile legs,
and tries to hide from sight;
she seeks to guard her soft-shelled eggs
and has no will to fight,
but something prods the woven hole
where she has crept to hide,
and someone has a deadly goal
and tears the hole aside…
The spider rears up, makes a show,
her fangs a shining threat;
then she receives a heavy blow -
she’s dead as she can get.
The spider’s dead; to our relief,
and no-one feels a speck of grief.
