I didn't care
and told him so
I made it plain.
I could not bear
for him to think
I cared
when I did not.

He touched
his new love's
soft bright hair
and said:
It's quite alright,
she doesn't care.
He took her hand
and walked away.

I watched them go;
and fell to earth
and huddled there,
and didn't care.
