The Flutterbye Story

A flying saucer landed
out there the other night.
It almost crushed my roses,
I got an awful fright!

I peeped out through the window,
and saw these pretty things,
all climb out from a trapdoor,
unfolding gauzy wings.

I like to meet new people,
so I went straight outside,
but when they got a look at me,
the poor things nearly died!

They quite forgot their manners,
they simply stood and stared.
I think that I look friendly,
but they were plainly scared.

I did my best to show them
I'd like to be their friend.
I worked hard to convince them,
succeeding in the end.

They said, It's accidental,
us landing in this place.
You see, we're not invaders,
just flutterbyes from space!

I said I'd like to help them,
and asked what I could do.
A gizmo broke, their leader said,
We need a spot of glue.

Now maybe they were able
to get back home all right,
perhaps that glued-up something
stayed mended for the flight,

But if you see a saucer
land on your lawn one night,
with flutterbyes around it,
please don't go out to fight.

Remember this true story,
it could be they're my friends
so you be kind, you hear me?
That's how my story ends.
