Viewing "Cobb and Co"(a painting by Australian artist, d'arcy W. Doyle)
She said, ‘It’s just a peaceful rural scene:
a red dirt track, with grass, some trees and two
small children.’ We can see a kangaroo
about to hop has paused and sits between
a shrub and tree near where a coach has been -
for in the foreground, now the coach comes through.
The driver’s tough, as bushmen are; he’d chew
on nails and spit the pieces out! Four lean
well muscled horses pull the coach, but why
would they be galloping at such a pace?
‘See how they toss their heads and pound the track!’
We leave, return, discuss the thing and sigh…
So d’arcy wins with this – he holds an ace;
what’s not explained will always draw us back.
